A cutting edge senior living community, Sagewood at Desert Ridge, was looking to create a chic “town center/clubhouse” at the heart of its property.
Thirteen, 8 feet wide by 30 feet high, vertical lift doors were designed similar to casement windows to surround the “town center”. Each door was framed with logs that span the full height of the building. A lower set of doors were raised with custom winches and overlap the stationary upper set of doors once fully raised. Because the logs have their own taper and seasonal movement, designers were challenged to create a spline that fit into a channel inside the logs, which allowed for the recurring shifts.
